The Wendat Nation is an association divided into four main Iroquian speaking tribes: in your language The Bear, Cord, Rock, and Deer. Nearly half of the Wendat population is of the Attignawantan (The Bear Tribe) in 13 villages. One of the oldest tribes, The Attigneenongnahac (Cord Tribe), live in three main villages. Arendarhonon (Rock Tribe) live in four main villages with the village of Cahiague being their main village. The Tahontaenrat (Deer Tribe) was the last tribe to enter Wendake.

Tribal councils are called by a chief of a clan and a messenger is sent to all the various village chiefs, telling them of the time and place of the meeting. Before travelling to the meeting, each clan must determine an opinion on the matter to be discussed. Once a year, all clan chiefs attend a confederacy council. At the annual confederacy council lasting several weeks, usually in the spring, there is dancing, feasting and gift giving. We also discuss common war and defence plans, and renew and strengthen ties between our nations.
