Homes
My habitations in the New World cannot match the civility and luxury we
can expect in our many storied French homes. We endeavour to have many
rooms and to maintain some measure of privacy which is something the Natives
seem to have little interest in living as they do in communal longhouses.
I cannot bring to New France the many pieces of furniture one will find
in our rooms. Nor can I paper the wall with scenic landscapes nor embroider,
gild or decorate the furniture in our sparse quarters. However, I do insist
on having a good writing desk of walnut and my four-poster bed with side
curtains, which affords me a greater measure of warmth and privacy.
